In the class next door, I was hunkered down over my algebra homework, straining to focus amid the boisterous exchange of two large, meathead-type individuals. Their argument grew increasingly heated and inarticulate, making it difficult for me to concentrate on my studies. After a while, I simply couldn't take it anymore; they needed to be brought back down to earth.

Taking a deep breath and mustering up all the courage I could find, I stood up from my desk and ventured into the chaotic fray. With what little authority I could muster, I managed to break up the fight by loudly demanding that they stop yelling at each other. Once the clamor had died down somewhat, I asked what they were arguing about.

It turned out that the fight had been sparked by racist comments made by their soccer coach towards Native Americans. I immediately seized upon this information and, without hesitation, marched over to the coach's office. After delivering a stern lecture on his appalling behavior, I demanded that he pack his things and leave.

Alone once again with the school's janitor, I couldn't help but inquire about the rumors I'd heard swirling around concerning Native Americans. To my horror, he confirmed that they were indeed true. As we shared our mutual outrage, I couldn't help but feel a rising sense of frustration with the state of affairs at our school. Something needed to be done to address these issues, and fast.
